What is your name?

Wednesday, July 5, 2023

Name is something that defines the child's identity and personality. A child's name can make them unique if they have a name that is almost 'one of a kind'. On the other hand, a child's name can tie the little one to being part of the family history if the child gets a name from an appreciated family member.

Whatever the meaning, history, or story of the child's name is - everyone's name surely is important as it is needed everywhere you go, all your life. The question "What is your name?" children hear many, many, many times in their lives on several different occasions. Other children, teachers, aunts, and even unknown people might be interested in the child's name! In case of an emergency (if the child gets lost for example) it is a great skill if a child can and has the courage to tell, write or spell his/her own name!

As names are an interesting and lovely topic, there is also a lesson plan that is about children's names. Name play in early years is one of the early literacy activities that has
many benefits. Before children are ready to write their names, they can focus on name recognition, spelling their name,s and constructing their names.

Kindiedays theme-based lesson plans

Theme-based lessons make learning engaging and meaningful for children. By exploring a central theme, children can see how different subjects are connected, participate in hands-on activities, and develop their language, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Themes provide context for learning, allowing children to relate new information to their own experiences. This fosters motivation, active participation, and a deeper understanding of the subject matter, laying a strong foundation for future learning.

The Lessons are also connected to 5 learning areas and their objectives derived from the Finnish National Curriculum. However, the learning areas and objectives are often similar to other international curriculums and can easily be used in any Early Learning Center.
