Early childhood education is changing rapidly. Parents today want preschools that do more than prepare children for exams. They want schools that nurture creativity, communication, and confidence — while also ensuring strong foundations in math, literacy, and life skills. For preschool owners and educators, the challenge is clear: how do you balance traditional learning with modern, child-centered methods in India?
At Kindiedays, we believe the answer lies in a blended curriculum merging best practices from Finland with the cultural and curriculum needs in India — one that brings together the best of experiential, playful learning with the structured support of textbooks. This combination empowers teachers, engages children, and reassures parents.
And very soon, we are excited to share that Kindiedays will launch a new academic calendar for India that integrates both experiential lesson plans and textbooks seamlessly.
Why Preschools Need a Blended Approach
Traditionally, many preschools in India have relied heavily on textbooks and worksheets. While these provide structure and familiarity for parents, they often limit opportunities for children to explore, discover, and express themselves. On the other hand, fully play-based programs can sometimes leave parents worried: “But what about reading and writing? What about math?”
A blended curriculum solves this challenge:
- Experiential lesson plans ensure children learn by doing — through stories, games, arts, outdoor activities, and projects that develop creativity, problem-solving, and social skills.
- Textbooks in math and literacy provide systematic coverage of foundational skills, helping children practice step by step and preparing them for formal schooling.
- Together, they provide a holistic learning experience that is both joyful and academically sound.
What Kindiedays Brings to the Table
Over the years, Kindiedays has worked closely with preschools to provide ready-made lesson plans inspired by Finnish best practices. These plans focus on playful, hands-on learning that children love.
Now, in response to the needs of preschool owners and teachers, we are taking the next step. Soon, through a partnership with a leading publisher, preschools will be able to use traditional textbooks in math and literacy alongside Kindiedays lesson plans.
The new academic calendar will guide schools in combining these two approaches smoothly. Teachers won’t have to choose one or the other — they will have a clear, balanced program that brings them together.
Imagine a Day in the Preschool Classroom
Theme: Me and My Body
9:00–9:15 AM – Arrival: Children are welcomed warmly by their teachers, settle into the classroom, and prepare for the day ahead.
9:15–9:35 AM – Circle Time: The teacher introduces the weekly theme Me and My Body through a painting by Fernand Léger. Children observe the artwork, identify body parts they can see, and try to recreate the positions with their bodies. The teacher also explains the schedule for the day.
9:35–10:05 AM – English: Children practice letter names and join in the Alphabet Song. The session introduces phonics in a playful way.
10:05–10:25 AM – Environmental Studies: An introduction to body parts. Children look in the mirror, point to their own features, and name them, beginning to understand how each part has a role.
10:25–10:45 AM – Indoor/Outdoor Physical Play: Children enjoy active play, running, climbing, or playing movement games that strengthen gross motor skills and coordination.
10:45–11:10 AM – Lunch Break: A nutritious meal shared, with a focus on independence — children practice washing hands, serving, and eating.
11:10–11:40 AM – Maths: Children explore the shapes around them — circles, squares, triangles — by finding and naming objects in the classroom and then practicing in their math coursebook.
11:40–12:10 PM – Finnish Playful Learning: Building on the morning’s Circle Time, children create a collective artwork inspired by Fernand Léger. Using bold colors and shapes, they represent different body parts, combining observation, creativity, and collaboration.
12:10–12:30 PM – Playroom Time: Free play with toys and peers supports imagination, social skills, and self-regulation.
12:30 PM – Closing Time: The day ends with a short reflection. Children share their favorite activity before heading home.
This rhythm helps children see learning as both fun and purposeful. Teachers feel confident that they are meeting all developmental needs. Parents see evidence of progress in books while knowing their child is also enjoying school.
